Morgan Hill, CA -- The Capital Athletic Boca Jrs 91 boys team defeated defending CYSA State Cup Champions Merced 2-1 on Sunday to advance to the Quarter-Finals of the tournament.
After a bit of a slow start and some outstanding saves by goalkeeper Tyler Kinn, Boca began to put things together and in the 17th minute of the match drew a penalty kick when a Boca player was pulled down in the box. Kinn converted the kick to give Boca the 1-0 advantage. In the 34th minute Boca struck again when Gabe Padilla slipped a pass through the Merced defense to Chris Lathe who scored to make it 2-0. Merced scored a late goal in stoppage time to make the final score 2-1.
The Boca Jrs will take on Santa Clara Sporting on Saturday in Ripon.
