The U11 Boca Jrs 95 girls had an outstanding showing in their first tournament together. The girls earned shutout victories in their first four games and scored eleven goals while allowing just three. The team showed great heart and spirit throughout the week-end advancing to the Nike Cup Final.
In the opening gave vs. MRFC 95 Cosmos (WA), the Boca girls came out with ton of energy. They dominated the match and created numerous scoring opportunities. Clare Carrol and Elizabeth Hutchingson broke loose and were able to convert for a 2-0 win. The second game Boca faced the Vancouver Courage (WA) and prevailed 1-0 off another Clare Carroll goal. Maddy Deters and Bailee Lupton led a strong Boca defense to a hard fought shut-out. The third match of the tournament was a 5-0 rout over WUSC Rockers (WA). Elizabeth Hutchison led the way to victory with two goals. Marian Haarmeyer, Julia Beck, and Brigid Lummis also scored in the match for Boca.
The girls faced the host Lake Oswego Extreme in the semi-final. After being dominated in the first half of play, Boca played a terrific second half earning a hard fought 1-0 win. Bridgid Lummis scored a beautiful free kick to send Boca to the final.
The girls gave everything they had in the Final but came up short (2-3) against the impressive FC Crush from WA. After a scoreless first half, the Crush penetrated the Boca defense with great speed and broke through for three second half goals. Facing a 3-0 defecit, the Boca team showed great fight and determination and changed momentum late by scoring two impressive goals by Taylor Nelson and Brigid Lummis.
Throughout the tournament Boca provided it's supporters with unselfish and determined play both offensively and defensively. In addition to the players previously mentioned, all the players contributed to the teams success. Dominique Fernandez and Alyssa Zuniga provided excellent play in the goal and on the field. Emily Hansen and Missy Hanson contrtibuted with solid defense play while Taylor Duthler and Courney Craney inspired with tireless midfield play. Last but not least, coach Melissa Cavitt provided the leadership and motivated the girls to play with great spirit.
