Boca Jrs 90 Girls Finalists At Las Vegas

Boca 90LAS VEGAS, NV -- Playing in another major college showcase the Capital Athletic Boca Jrs 90 girls team once again came away with hardware.

Boca opened the Las Vegas College Coaches Showcase against national power Ohio Premier with a 2-1 victory.  Forward Hannah Davidson got the team on the scoreboard first when she finished a corner kick from Brittani Lum.  Ohio Premier equalized before the half, but Davidson struck again in the second half on assists from Brynne Konkel and Alexia Poon.
The second game on Friday had an international flavor as Boca took on a team from Canada the Semiahmoo Spirit. Konkel and forward Jennie Marshall scored the two first half goals, and Davidson added another in the second period to give Boca the 3-0 victory.  Boca needed a tie or a win in their last pool game to advance to the semi-finals. Outstanding play by midfielders Kelsey Costan, Katie Kinney, Crystal Romero, Lum, and Chloe Levin helped Boca control the match.

Saturday morning Boca took on Arizona rival Sereno.  For the third time in a month Boca defeated the Golden Eagles. Marshall flicked a cross by Poon into the back post and the 1-0 victory.  A timely save off the line by center defender Sasha Lucyga preserved the shutout and the win.  Boca used tremendous ball control the entire game to keep Sereno from being dangerous.

On Sunday morning Boca a very physical Wolfpack team from Southern California. Halfway through the first half Poon slammed home a rebounded shot at the top of the box to give Boca a 1-0 lead. Physical defending by Elena Davert, Lizzy Mayes, Brooke Harrison, Jayne Auble and Brenna Rhoades as well as strong goalkeeping by Allison Evans and Myia Williams kept the Wolfpack from scoring.

In the finals Boca faced off with the Southside Strykers from Oregon. Boca scored in the opening three minutes when Poon crossed the ball to Konkel from the left flank. Konkel chipped the goalkeeper with her shot to give Boca the 1-0 advantage. Southside however came back and eventually won 2-1.

Next up for Boca is State Cup.
