Boca Jrs 90 Grils Thru To Sweet 16

Boca 90Lemoore, CA -- After opting not to participate in CYSA State Cup in 2004 the Capital Athletic Boca Jrs 90 girls team stormed back into the competition last weekend.  Boca outscored its three opponents 14-0, won the group, and advanced to the Sweet 16.

Boca opened the tournament with a match against District 6 rival Napa.  After a scoreless first half Capital Athletic (playing as RCU) exploded for four goals in the second half to win 4-0.  Forward Hannah Davidson was involved in every goal.  Five minutes into the second period Davidson assisted forward Brynne Konkel for the first goal of the match.  Davidson then scored the second goal on an assist from left back Brooke Harrison three minutes later.  Davidson then assisted Konkel and Alexia Poon on the final two goals of the match.

Saturday afternoon Boca took on the Manteca Rangers.  This time Boca didn't wait until the second half to score.  Seventeen minutes into the game Konkel slipped a pass to midfielder Katie Kinney for the first goal of the game.  Kinney then assisted Davidson to put Boca up 2-0.  Boca netted two more goals before the half when Davidson picked up her third assist of the day on a pass to Kelsey Costan.  Brittani Lum connected a thru ball with Konkel seven minutes before halftime to give Boca the 4-0 advantage.  In the second half Alexia Poon kept the scoring going when she received an assist from Allison Evans.  Lum scored the final goal of the match 14 minutes into the second period on a blast into the lower right corner from 30 yards out.

Boca entered play on Sunday needing a tie or win against South Valley from Fresno to advance to the next round of State Cup.  After a bit of a slow start offensively Boca scored a goal 30 minutes into the match when Chloe Levin hit a great thru ball to Costan who let the ball run thru her legs to Konkel.  One dribble later Konkel slammed the ball into the back of the net.  Boca opened the second half when Lum hit a free kick to the back post which Konkel headed home.  Costan then took over the game up front beating numerous defenders to score the final two goals of the match on assists from Konkel and Elena Davert.

While the offense on the weekend was prolific the defense was equally impressive.  Goalkeepers Evans and Myia Williams along with backs Sasha Lucyga, Lizzy Mayes, Davert, Jayne Auble, Davidson, and Harrison dominated all three games.  Boca also received tremendous play from midfielders Lum, Crystal Romero, Levin, and Kinney.

Next up Boca will play in the Sweet 16 in Morgan Hill.
