CASA friendlies

Cherry Island -- The heat of Labor day couldn't keep the U13's from Boca Jrs 94 girls and their friends from Davis, Manteca and Vacaville from coming together to play soccer and have a great time.  Each team had the chance to play closely contested friendly matches against each other centered around a potluck bar-b-q.  Beating the heat was a tough task and the girls played as hard in the sprinklers as they did on the field.  New friends were made and a great time was had by all.

Socer beat: Youth symposium attracts national experts

By Debbie Arrington - Bee Staff Writer

Big things can sprout from simple ideas.

That's what happened when Capital Athletic Soccer Academy decided to host a free youth soccer symposium at 7 tonight at Sacramento State . Coaches, players, parents and anyone else interested in the future of youth soccer are invited to the event at Sac State 's Alumni Hall.

"We're expecting more than 300 people," CASA club administrator Kari Hawkins said. "We got the biggest hall we could get, and I think we'll fill it. (The event) will be quite huge."

And no wonder; the list of speakers reads like a who's who of national soccer experts.

World Cup 2006 Report

By Gary M. Messing

Zenidine Zidane’s loss of control threatened to ruin my entire World Cup experience in 2006.  Nothing that the Italian defender Materazzi said could justify Zidane’s outrageous head butt into Materazzi’s chest with ten minutes to play in overtime of the final game.  Nor, can anything that Materazzi said to provoke that attack be justified either.  However, this incident could not wipe out the wonderful level of play and the camaraderie between nations that existed for one month in Germany.

Capital Athletic Raises $2,835.00 For Cancer Research

Race For The CureSacramento, CA -- Over 70 members of the Capital Athletic Soccer Academy participated in the Susan G. Komen Foundation Sacramento Race For the Cure on Saturday to raise money for breast cancer research. The club raised $2,835.00 for the Foundation through the generous donations of its membership and many others in the soccer community.

"It was an amazing event," said Director of Soccer Operations Melissa Cavitt who coordinated the effort on behalf of Capital Athletic. "To see so many members of the soccer community and the Sacramento community come together for such a great cause was truly special. We plan on making this a yearly event for our club."

The club originally pledged to raise $1,200.00. However, after the first two weeks of fundraising it was obvious that goal would be reached easily.
