Brandon Briggs Earns Eage Scout Badge

Brandon BriggsWe would like to congratulate Brandon Briggs, Goalkeeper for Berhane's Boca Jrs 89 Boys (U18) team for recently earning his Eagle Scout badge. This award is the highest rank that can be earned in Boy Scouts. Brandon has spent the last 10 years juggling soccer and scouts to achieve this award. He and two other players travel 2 hours one way (from Carson City, NV) to practice with the Boca team in Sacramento twice a week. His Eagle Scout project was organizing and holding a soccer camp for youth in Carson City, Nevada in October of 2006. Brandon Briggs is on the Boca Jrs 89 Boys team. Mykel Bates (Boca Jrs 89) made the U17 World Cup Roster

                                                    Bradenton, FL -- Bates scores 3 goals at friendliesMykel has played for Boca since he was 7 and the U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team head coach John Hackworth has included him on the 21-player roster that will represent the United States at the 2007 FIFA Under-17 World Cup from Aug. 18-Sept. 9 across eight venues in South Korea. The World Cup games will be televised on ESPNU. “We felt all along that the talented pool of players in this age group is very deep, making our decisions extremely difficult,” said Hackworth. “However, we feel that we selected players that have proven that they are dedicated to our team’s success at the World Cup.”

Mykell Bates Named PARADE All American

Parade All American TeamCapital Athletic Boca Jrs 89 player Mykell Bates was named to the Parade All America High School team today by the magazine.  Bates, a Roseville native, is currently among 40 players training at the IMG Academy in Bradenton Florida with the U17 National Team. The squad is preparing for the FIFA U17 World Cup which will be held next year in South Korea.

Bates Plays With U17 National Team In Argentina

Bates in ArgentinaBUENOS AIRES, Argentina -- Capital Athletic Boca Juniors player Mykell Bates and the U.S. Under-17 '90 Men's National Team opened Group A of the Copa Esparanzas Corea 2007 Tournament with a 1-1 tie against the Comision Actividades Infantiles on Monday.

Bates started in the back for the US and played the entire 80 minutes. Next the U.S. will take on the Argentina U17 Men's National Team on Wednesday. This is the first foreign tour of the year for the team as it prepares for the Under-17 World Cup next year. The team is coached by John Hackworth.

Two Boca Jrs 89 Boys In US National Program

USNTSACRAMENTO, CA -- Mykell Bates and Ade Akinsanya, teammates from the Capital Athletic Boca Jrs 89 boys team, have been asked by US Soccer to represent their respective age groups on US Youth National Teams.

Bates, who has been a key contributor to Boca Jrs since under-10 accepted an invitation by US Soccer to their Full-Time Residency Program.

"This is a tremendous honor for Mykell to respresent his country while playing at the highest level, "said Boca Jrs 89 Head Coach and Capital Athletic Boys Director of Coaching Don Finley.  "Mykell is a great competitor and his hard work over the last several years is being recognized and rewarded."
