Coach Andeberhan has extensive coaching experience at US Soccer as well as several Universities. He has also served as a college instructor in the fields of Microbiology and Food Science. Coach Andeberhan holds the Brazilian Professional Coaching License issued by the Brazilian Football Federation as well as the A License of US Soccer. He played his collegiate soccer at UCLA where he earned his BA in Zoology. Subsequently he completed his MS degree in Microbiology at LomaLindaUniversity and is a Doctoral Candidate at Cornell where he has completed work for his PhD in Food Science.
As a member of the US Soccer National Staff he served as a Coaching School Instructor, coached the US U20 Women’s National Team, served as Men’s Olympic Festival team coach and Women’s Olympic Festival team coach. He also served as the Western Regional coach for Men, Women’s Olympic Festival Coach and USYSA Girls Western Regional Coach. At the college level he served as CSU Los Angeles Men’s Head Coach, Stanford Women’s Head Coach, Cornell Women’s Head Coach and USC Men’s Assistant Coach.
The Technical Director is in charge of the soccer operations of the club including establishing the curriculum as well as hiring, directing and supervising the coaching staff.
Given his extensive collegiate experience, he also directs the CASA College Choice Advising program to assist players and parents with the College Choice process.
Coach Chet Grant holds the USSF “A” License and has been involved in coaching and coaching education for many years. He has coached extensively at the youth, adult and collegiate levels. He has served as a coaching instructor for the USYSA Region IV Coaching program. In addition he has served as an Olympic Development Coach for the Far West Region and coached state and regional teams as well as serve in the ODP training camps.
He holds a BA in Social Science from CSU Sacramento with an emphasis on Physical Education.
He is currently one of the fulltime staff at BOCA and has been integral to the recent progress being made by the club.
Coach Andy Hashimoto holds the USSF “A” license and has had extensive experience coaching youth soccer in the Sacramento area. Prior to joining BOCA in 2007, Hashimoto coached at San Juan and was also the Varsity Boys Head Coach at Oak Ridge High School in El Dorado Hills. In his first season at Oak Ridge, Coach Hashimoto was named the Sierra Valley Conference Coach of the Year.
Coach Hashimoto studied and played soccer at Sacramento State on a soccer scholarship. He received his BS degree in Biological Sciences and won the 2001 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship during his senior year.
Coach Hashimoto played for the San Juan Soccer Club as a youngster and was a member of the U14 State Cup Champions. He was Captain of his U15 to U19 teams. At Oakmont High School he captained his team and was Folsom Challenge Cup MVP. He led his team to the 1994 & 1995 Sac-Joaquin Division I Championships and in 1996 was selected to the Sacramento Bee’s First Team All City Soccer Team.
Coach Gary Messing holds the highest coaching licenses offered in the US namely the USSF “A” License and the NSCAA Premier Diploma. He has over forty years of soccer playing and coaching experience. He has coached youth soccer extensively in the Sacramento area including at Placer, San Juan and Sacramento United in addition to BOCA. He was also Director of Coaching for the Sacramento United Soccer Club.
He played collegiate soccer at Amherst College where he was an All American and All New England Selection. He also played in the adult leagues in San Francisco and the Central California League.
Coach Cavitt holds the NSCAA “Premier Diploma” as well as the Coaching Director Certificate. He has coached at BOCA from the beginning and has extensive coaching experience in youth soccer. He is one of the fulltime staff members at BOCA and has been instrumental in most of the progress the club has enjoyed in the past.
Coach Cavitt played professional soccer in Ireland as well as in the USA including for the Sacramento Knights and Scorpions. He was also a standout in college where he played for SacramentoState and SonomaState and earned numerous honors as a player. Coach Cavitt has a BA is English. In addition he has played for numerous outdoor and indoor adult teams in the Sacramento area.
He is a product of the Northern California youth environment where he was a standout earning ODP selection before his collegiate career.
Coach Juan Fresquez holds the USSF “B” Coaching License, and brings his extensive Southern California playing and coaching experience to Boca. In addition to Chaffey College in Southern California, Juan coached Damien High School to two consecutive CIF Division I titles, while going undefeated and twice earning Coach of the Year honors. At the youth level, he most recently coached at Claremont Stars, Celtic Soccer Club, Glendora Soccer Club and Diamond Bar Walnut Valley Soccer Club. As a player, Juan captained Berhane’s Cal. St. Los Angeles team to an 18-2 season, and appeared in an NCAA Final. He went on to play semi-professionally in the Greater LA League.
Coach Paul Hansen holds the USSF “B” Coaching License and is the Head Coach and PE Instructor at American River College. He holds a Master’s degree in Physical Education and is one of the most experienced teachers in the club. After completing an illustrious career at Cal Poly SLO, where he started every game for four years and captained his NCAA Division I side, Paul played 12 years professionally for the Sacramento Knights. He has extensive coaching experience at all levels of soccer, coaching boys and girls as well adult men and women. All three of his children play for BOCA.
Coach Tibor Pelle is a former United States U20 MNT Player who holds the USSF “B” Coaching License, as well as the NSCAA Director of Coaching Certificate. He was a standout in the ODP process, having captained successive California State and Western Regional teams before playing his collegiate soccer at UCLA. He was chosen to represent the West in the annual Senior Bowl.
Coach Pelle began his coaching career at UCLA under Sigi Schmid and Steve Sampson, and later coached in the ODP program, at American River College, and at River City and San Juan Soccer Clubs before joining the Capital Athletic Soccer Academy.
He is married to Maya, and both his sons, Ethan and Sandor play at Boca.
Dr. Tris Rieland is an ER Doctor who holds the NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, and somehow manages, without sleep, to find the time to coach, be intimately involved with the growth of Boca, fuel his obsession with soccer, raise a family, and still maintain his medical practice. He grew up with the game and was a standout as a youth player, making it to the CYSA (N) State Team. Subsequently he played at Skyline Junior College and UC Davis, where he was team captain in 1990.
He received his BS in Physiology at UC Davis, and his MS degree at the Finch University of Heath Sciences/The Chicago Medical School. He followed his medical training by doing his Emergency Medicine Residency at UC Davis Medical School, and is certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine. On his way to medical school, Dr. Coach took time off to play semi-professionally in Germany and is still spotted in the area on Sundays, changing directly from his scrubs into soccer gear.
Coach Tris Rieland is married to Tina, and his children Ari and Elias both play at Boca.
Coach Jeff Alcala is a product of the Sacramento youth soccer system and played collegiate soccer under Mitch Murray and Steve Sampson at Santa Clara University before graduating to the United States U20 MNT. After playing professionally for the Sacramento Knights, Chicago Power, Cincinnati Silverbacks, and Buffalo Blizzard, he earned his USSF "C" Coaching License and has spent many years using his professional background to develop local talent.
He has served many of the youth clubs in this area as a coach and coaching coordinator. His current position at Boca has him working closely with the U8-U10 program. Coach Alcala is married to Lisa, and his son Lucas plays at Boca.
Coach Betsy Barr holds the USSF "C" License and is a former United States U21 National Team player. She played professionally for the Washington Freedom and the San Jose Cyberrays in the WUSA League from 2003-2005, and for the California Storm. Coach Barr is one of only a small handful of players from the Sacramento area ever to have won an NCAA Division I crown, when she played for the University of Portland from 1999-2002. She is currently a teacher and coach at Antelope High School, and was recently re-united with her youth coach, Chet Grant, when she began coaching in the U15-18 subgroup at Boca.
Coach Melissa Cavitt holds the NSCAA National and Youth Diplomas as well as the Positive Coaching Alliance Double Goal Coach Certificate. She is one of the mainstays of the BOCA coaching staff with and extensive playing and coaching background. Her playing experience includes professional and collegiate soccer. She is a product of the Sacramento area youth soccer from which she was selected to the US Youth National U20 team. She played at the University of Portland before playing professional soccer with the San Diego Spirit and the Sacramento Storm. In addition to BOCA she has coached extensively for numerous youth clubs in Sacramento.
Coach Jeremy Field holds the USSF “C” Coaching License and has extensive playing and coaching experience. He played professional soccer in France for Dijon FC, locally for the Sacramento Knights and Sacramento Scorpions, and for the Cleveland Crunch. He is a product of the Sacramento area youth soccer system and went through ODP ranks to make it to the National Pool. He was Player-of-the-Year for Jesuit High School in 1990.
Coach Field has assistant coached at the junior college level, and passed on a budding J. Crew modeling career to become a staff coach with the younger age groups at Boca.
Katie Ulan
Coach Katie Ulan is a product of club in which she now coaches. As a youth, she was selected to the Northern California Olympic Development team. She played high school soccer at Saint Francisand subsequently joined the Elk Grove Pride of the Women’s Premier Soccer League.
She has been a member of the BOCA staff working with the youngest age groups. She has her NSCAA National Diploma, and is also coaching on the ODP district staff.
Coach Ralph Ramirez is one of the longest-serving coaches in our club, having started with River City in the 1990s. He is currently Head Coach at Rio Linda High School, where he has coached the varsity girls team for 11 years, and serves Boca in the capacity of Staff Coach U15-19 Girl’s Subgroup.
Coach Conor McNulty holds the NSCAA Regional Coaching Diploma and is the Goalkeeping Specialist for BOCA, where he is responsible for training goalkeepers and holding goalkeeping seminars for the coaching staff. He is an experienced player who grew up in the soccer hotbed of Lake Oswego OR, and played collegiate soccer at the University of San Francisco. He played for the Northern California ODP team, and went on to play professional soccer for the San Jose Earthquakes and Colorado Rapids organizations. Coach McNulty has coached extensively at many levels of the game, including the Northern California ODP program, USF Soccer and the Near Post Goalkeeper Academy.
